How to Select & Store

When selecting apples, press your finger against them to check for firmness. Choose apples that feel hard and won't dent. Make sure you do this when selecting larger apples because they are more likely to be overripe than the smaller ones.

Next time you're at the supermarket, select your favorite type of apple to take home and enjoy. There are so many varieties to choose from—why not try them all?

At home, store apples in your refrigerator to keep them crisp, juicy, and delicious. When stored in the refrigerator, apples stay fresh?for about six weeks.

In the refrigerator, make sure not to store your apples next to green vegetables or leafy greens (like spinach). These vegetables are sensitive to a natural gas produced by apples, called ethylene gas, which promotes ripening.

Did you know that bananas, tomatoes, melons, and pears also produce ethylene gas?
