Asparagus
Why They Are Good For Us

Asparagus

Asparagus is an amazing vegetable! Not only is it delicious, but it's also a Superfood for your Immunity, low in calories and packed with lots of nutrients.

One serving of asparagus (only five medium spears!) contains just 16 calories, very little sodium, and no fat or cholesterol. One serving of asparagus is also a good source of a B vitamin called folate, which helps keep your heart healthy, and vitamin K, which helps your blood clot after you cut yourself.

But wait! There's more good nutrition news about asparagus. Asparagus also contains a substance called glutathione. That's pronounced "glue-ta-THI-on." This substance does some really important things for your body.

First, it's a "master antioxidant." That means it helps vitamins A and C, which are antioxidants, defend against substances called "free radicals," which are bad for the cells in your body. In this way, glutathione and other antioxidants help keep you healthy!

Second, studies have shown that glutathione can help prevent certain cancers and may offer protection against viruses.

Wow! What an awesome vegetable!
